AT THE SUMMI T NFIB teamed up with small business-friendly sponsors, including Sam’s Club, Solveras, Dell and SBTV, to honor innovative independent business owners from

Dell and NFIB rewarded 10 small business owners who use innovative technology to run their enterprises. The nine finalists received a free Dell business-class laptop and a one-year NFIB membership, and this year’s winner, Steve and Karen Mattie of Transport Designs in Montoursville, Pa., received $25,000 in Dell products, a lifetime NFIB membership and a day at the Dell facilities.
How does small business work for America? Contestants competing for NFIB’s first Small Business Works for America Award created 30-second videos to answer this question, but none fared better than Marc Boese and Michael Cottrell of Jacksonville, Fla. Boese and Cotrell received
WATCH first prize for their video, “Lemonade,” and
NOW were rewarded with $5,000 and an all-expensespaid trip tothe Summit.

To honor risk-taking entrepreneurs for creating the bulk of America’s jobs, Sam’s Club, SBTV and NFIB joined together to offer the Small Business Makeover Award. Wayne McIntyre of McIntyre Plumbing in Tyler, Texas, received the award, as well as $45,000 in Sam’s Club merchandise, $25,000 cash, a full year of business mentoring from SBTV and a lifetime NFIB membership.

While there is just o ne Small Business Makeover winner, we are c onfident we can help small business own- ers nationwide win by making their dollars go farther, and improving their bottom line.”
Each year NFIB honors a small business
activist in each state with the Small Business
Champion Award. This year’s regional
winners were honored at the Summit:

NOW Bush, owner of Telecom Corporation and
Telecare Corporation in Boca Raton, Fla.;
Catherine Popp Hoffman, owner of HB
Capital in Zionsville, Ind.; and Billy Knorpp,
owner of RVP Systems in Boise, Idaho.
